10-11 December 2025
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
The African Energy Commission of the African Union and partners, in collaboration with the Regional Centers for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, presents the Inaugural African Energy Efficiency Conference (AEEC). The AEEC will be hosted by the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia under the auspices of the African Union Commission Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on December 10-11, 2025.
The event will bring together honorable ministers responsible for energy in African Union member states and high-level representatives of development partners, businesses, NGOs, research institutions, and other key stakeholders. It will be preceded by preconference events that include partner meetings and expert training in various thematic areas.
The AEEC is being organized under the African Energy Efficiency Alliance, a collaborative platform adopted by the African Heads of State and Government during the 46th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council, bringing together global stakeholders working on energy efficiency in Africa. This is to promote the sharing of knowledge and experiences on energy efficiency in Africa, strengthen advocacy and awareness, support research and development, facilitate technology transfer, and mobilize financing and investments for energy efficiency programs.
The inaugural conference offers a unique and unparalleled opportunity to take stock of African Member States’ progress toward the continental objective of enhancing energy productivity by 50% by 2050 and by 70% by 2063. It aims to mobilize both technical and financial support, fortify partnerships for the implementation of energy efficiency programs, and facilitate the exchange of experiences and outcomes from ongoing initiatives across Africa. This is part of Africa’s commitment to the global pledge made at COP28 to double energy efficiency improvements and triple renewables by 2030.
