The Somalia Country Climate and Development Report (CCDR), published by the World Bank Group in January 2026, analyses how climate change is affecting Somalia’s economic development and identifies pathways to build a more resilient economy.

The report highlights that Somalia is highly exposed to climate shocks such as recurrent droughts and floods, which threaten livelihoods, agriculture, food security and infrastructure, and could lead to significant economic losses if no action is taken.

According to the report, climate change could reduce Somalia’s GDP by up to 13 % by 2060 if adaptation measures are not implemented. To address these challenges, the report outlines priority investments in areas such as climate-resilient agriculture, water management, disaster risk reduction, renewable energy, and sustainable urban development, alongside stronger institutions and improved governance.
